Backpack panel replacement

Backpacks

Airlines can be so cruel.  This Patagonia backpack was severely damaged along the back left side.  To fix this, we opened up the entire side seam, created a new panel to cover the damaged area, then put it all back together.  Another piece of gear saved from the trash and put back in business.

UPCYCLING ALERT! Santa Cruz based Tepui Tents, leader in the rooftop tent market, asked us for help in giving their damaged, defective, and otherwise unusable products new life. While they do their best to repair what they can (we know; they use us to handle their warranty repairs) unfortunately not everything is repairable. Harvesting usable material from tent canopies, annexes and travel covers, we cut and fabricated collapsible dog bowls and some (truly) burly firewood carriers. The first round has been delivered, with more to come. Swipe through to get a view of the process, and keep an eye on @tepuitents and tepui.com on how to get yours! Back in the shop after 3 days of repairs as part of the Patagonia Worn Wear crew at EcoFarm in Asilomar, CA. Swipe through for a sampling of repairs, including the usual patches, zipper replacements and, new for this year, boot repair while you wait. As always it's an amazing experience being able to give back to the farmers and educators that do so much not only to put good food on our plates, but teach us all the correct way to get it there. Great to be part of the repair dream team with @franzybaby, @iamaliciayoung and @corrina_powell. See ya next year EcoFarm, and remember, if it's broke, fix it! Custom apron project. We were presented with a pair of fire-proof pants by an ex-wildland firefighter (now a kitchen enthusiast trading in the flames of a forest fire for the heat of the kitchen), and asked to make a custom chefs apron. It was requested that we re-purpose as many of the elements of the old pants that we could into this new piece. So, the main body of the apron was stitched together with material from the legs, and we were able to harvest and re-use the side cargo pockets, one of the back pockets, plus the metal guides from the leg cuffs. Along with some poly ribbon to finish the backside, we added an adjustable leather neck strap, some leather trim to the pockets, and copper rivet reinforcements to round it all out. This was our first attempt at an apron, and while there's plenty of room for improvement, we think it turned out pretty good. What do you think?
This is Tobin Ortenblad (aka @mctubbbin), and he's got a wheel hub problem. A competitive cyclcross racer, he often has to travel with and transport multiple wheel sets around the world on his way to competitions. Airlines can be a bit brutal on luggage, and these wheel bags have developed holes where the hubs have worn through. To keep these favorite wheel bags in circulation a bit longer, we stitched some heavy leather over the damage, and he's now good to go. While not the most technical of repairs, it definitely needs a seriously heavy duty stitcher, and that's where 'The Beast' (our cylinder head compound walking foot machine) shines. Safe travels and best of luck out there @mctubbbin! What's it like to post up on a beach in Baja and do repairs for a few days? Awesome. Just back from Mexico where we did repairs as part of the @wornwear crew at the 2019 La Ventana Classic. Definitely one of the more unique locations to work in. Resourcefulness runs deep in the area, and we joined along by setting up the machines using a combo of pallets, plywood and a metal storm window covering. With a front row seat to the kiting action and a parade of random dogs under foot, we set about repairing whatever we could for 2 days: numerous wetsuits, tents, kite bags, luggage and a variety of clothing and other gear. One of the more unique repairs was re-doing a strap on a homemade sandal fashioned out of a mountain bike tire (the owner being inspired by the Tarahumara of Chihuahua). And head's up! We'll be closed this week as we head to the EcoFarm conference in Asilomar, CA to do repairs for 3 days on the grounds, again as part of the Worn Wear crew. If you're in the area stop on by, get something repaired, and throw some high fives! If it's broke, fix it! Holiday weekend repair roundup. A random sampling of repairs to come through the shop this week. No before shots, just the after! 1. Custom jacket mods for an unsure doggie. 2. Slider replacement on a leaf collection bag. 3. Full zipper replacement on a softshell jacket. 4. Leatherwork fixes on a favorite purse. 5. Two full zipper replacements on a mtn biking pack. 6. Puffy patch. 7. Pocket tear reinforcement on a pair of cordoruy pants. 8. Shredded brim fix. 9. Patching a massive tear on a Jeep soft top. 10. Laying in a new zipper on a rain shell. It wasn't cost effective to completely remove the old zipper, so we carefully cut the teeth off of the zipper tape and sewed in a new zipper.
Replacing (dare we say improving?) the extension collar on a well loved @thenorthface backpack. "Get out & play. From surf to turf, we'll fix it." PACKING LIST FOR BAJA: 1. Boardshorts ✔ 2. Rashguard ✔ 3. Snap press, grommet press, snap and grommet trays, plus assorted hardware ✔✔✔ 4. Slider and buckle trays ✔✔ 5. 26 spool Gutterman thread assortment ✔ 6. Sandals, hat, and sunscreen ✔✔✔ Packing up and heading south to La Ventana, MX for the @laventanaclassic , a multi-day kite-surfing festival where we'll be part of the @patagonia @wornwear crew doing what we can to repair your gear, apparel and wetsuits. We'll be posting up at the festival 1/17, 1/18 and 1/19. If you're in the area and are in need of a repair, head on over. Nothing in need of repair? Stop by for the festivities and throw a couple high fives. The shop is still open this week, so if you've got any local repairs needed bring 'em on by the shop. Now, back to packing....anything we've forgotten?? So here's the story with Dave, his beloved @patagonia Venga Rock Pants, and how he got this latest patch on his crotch. At last week's @yosemitefacelift, the Patagonia @wornwear crew was posting up doing repairs for the 3rd year in a row. The first year, Dave brought us these pants for a patch on the rear (swipe to see pics). The second year they were brought back for additional patches on the knees (repairs courtesy of @yarndiva11, if memory serves) plus some small darning. This year? Patching some tearing on the crotch. Elated at this latest floral patch, Dave (who is a member of Yosemite Search and Rescue), was so ecstatic that he ascended Delia (the Worn Wear repair rig) and, to our knowledge, pioneered what is the first 5.fun route up the Southeast face of Delia. Stoked we could aid in the effort to keep the park clean by keeping clothing and gear in use and out of the landfill for seasons to come. Thanks to @yosemitefacelift for having us. See ya'll next year!

Full zipper replacement on a Patagonia Down Jacket (custom color request). 4. Full zipper replacement on a Yeti soft-sided cooler (plus a patch over a tear on the vinyl). 5.
